Thank you all for your concern and for reaching out to us this past week. We are adjusting to the daily, and sometimes hourly, changes affecting both our families and staff. Tough, but necessary decisions have been made with a singular focus in mind – doing everything in our power to protect the health of our already vulnerable children and their families. For a look at what we are doing here at RMH, read our updated COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan for Daily Operations.
Like the rest of the world, we’ve been riding waves of optimism and realism here at the House. We are hopeful that the public adheres to the recommendations of our dedicated medical community, and that the world is right side up again soon. But the truth is, we are facing an unprecedented and difficult reality. Policies and procedures have changed. Volunteer service is on pause. We can’t hug our families, kids, or each other. But what remains is our daily need. Tonight, 40 families will be in our care at the House. The hundreds of volunteers who sustain us weekly cannot come to prepare meals nor provide activities for them. Not only are we missing your human interaction that feeds their souls and nourishes their spirits, we are affected by the financial impact of the cost to feed and take care of our families each day. We need you more than ever. Every bit matters and each of you can make a big difference at this critical time. Many of you have asked how you can help. At the moment, here’s how…
- Donate to our Greatest Need Fund
- Join the Red Shoe Shuffle – our largest fundraiser of the year – as a Virtual Shuffler
Let’s get back to optimism… good things are happening here every day. The Good News Bell is still ringing, families are going home with their infant children, and as I write this I can hear a child belly laughing. We are also going forward with the Shuffle – virtually. Starting tomorrow, a daily update and interactive activities will populate our Facebook page as we head to the finish line for Shuffle 2020. On Sunday morning, March 29th at 8:30 a.m. we will be hosting the Virtual Shuffle on Facebook. Make sure to tune in – it’s gonna be fun, and we can all use some fun right now!
In the weeks ahead, we hope that the children here remain blissfully unaware. Unfortunately, for their parents, this is another, unimaginable layer of worry and hardship. It’s not the easy times that define us. And this is no easy time. As my beautiful, wise mother always told us during hard times as we were growing up “We’re all in this together.” And she’s right. While we can’t all BE together right now, we can COME together and make sure our families are fed, loved, supported and sustained.
We can’t wait to see you all again at the RMH serving meals, interacting with the families, and providing love and encouragement. Our hugs may be “virtual” for a while; the impact of your generosity is tangible.
We love and miss you all!
