2020 Roll with Ryder Holiday Hero Gift Card Challenge
November 1st – December 11th 2020
During this year of uncertainty, we want to make sure that the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House are able to give their children a fun and joy-filled holiday season. Gift cards are the best way to do this, allowing parents the opportunity to shop for gifts for their children, as well as taking care of basic needs such as clothing and groceries. When you donate a gift card to RMH this year, it will DOUBLE in value!! Here’s how it works…
What is the challenge?
Roll with Ryder will MATCH the full value of every gift card donated, up to $11,100 dollars. This means when you donate a $50 gift card, the House will get another $50 from Roll with Ryder… making your contribution $100, $25 becomes $50, $100 becomes $200… you get the picture!
What gift cards are best?
We are asking that all gift cards come from Target, Amazon or Walmart.
Can gift cards be purchased online?
Yes, e-gift cards are welcome and appreciated. They can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
How can our organization “raise” the cards and promote the Holiday Hero Challenge?
Feel free to be as creative as you would like. You know your group so have fun and promote it any way you like. Share on your social media channels, include in emails, or post to your website and encourage followers and friends to participate. One of our favorite suggestions is:
Decorate a tree with paper ornaments that have a child’s name, type and amount of gift card. People can take the ornaments and buy for that child and return the gift cards to a donation box, or donation captain. Note: RMH will provide you with paper ornaments, first names and ages.
How do we get the gift cards to you?
We can arrange for a drop-off directly to the Ronald McDonald House (1 Aisquith Street, Baltimore, MD 21202). All COVID-19 protocols will be followed for drop-off.
What’s the deadline for the gift card donation?
We would like to have all gift cards in hand by December 11th. This gives us time to determine family needs and distribute these in time for parents to use them before the holiday.
Collect Pull Tabs
Maryland’s only Ronald McDonald House has been collecting aluminum pull-tabs since 1996. Schools, service organizations, churches, businesses and individuals from all over the state and the country collect them for us.
The Groff Family started Kara Cares in mid 2014 as a way for our family to give back after receiving such great care, kindness, understanding, etc while staying at the Children’s House in late 2001. The Children’s House provided a level of protection and comfort that only those who use the facilities can understand.
As a family, we reach out to our networks and spread the word to save the tabs. Of course, people ask why we are saving the tabs and we are able to describe the Ronald McDonald House and how the funds from the tabs are used to put gas in the shuttles. Over the past 18 months, we have watched Kara Cares grow exponentially. In 2015, Mr. Russ Hurd and the Heather Hurd 5k joined forces and their program donated over 60 lbs of the total haul. They have tabs being mailed from all over the country, 9 states in all (for now)!!!
